Aruca’s Gardens. Gran Canaria.

Guided Visit

A catchphrase of the seventies described Arucas as the City of Flowers. The local Park of the Flowers-also called the “Jardin de Gourié”, as well as the Garden of the Marchioness, both situated in the municipality of Arucas are the evidence of a place implicated in the themes of gardening and Botany since centuries.

We’ll start the visit from the park of the town situated in the historical part of Arucas where we’ll enjoy a collection of a 2 hundred species of exotic and native ornamental plants with many very old examples of laurel trees. The design combines two types of gardening: the English one, with its woods, and the French one with its geometrical and symmetrical flower beds. Its ethnographical inheritance will also surprise us for this garden is one of the most ancient of Canarias.

Secondly, we’ll move to the Garden of the Marchioness a few minutes far from the centre of Arucas where we’ll have our Canarian picnic , in the shadow of a bicentenary dragon tree! The visit of the Garden will be full of surprises since the ownership started to be built in the 1880’s, by the Marquis of Arucas, a man keen on horticulture and botany and acquired quite a lot of exotic plants of great ornamental value. The actual collection encloses a 5oo species shared on 5Ha.

We’ll close the day with a walk to the urban area declared of historical-artistic interest and its outstanding San Juan Bautista parish Church.

We recommend you to take hiking shoes and a light waterproof jacket (just in case!).
